Recovery care: the work that begins after surgery ends

Hello.
Butler Plastic Surgery Clinic (specialty: plastic surgery)
I am Yun Taebin, director.

I do not think suturing is the full stop of surgery.
Our work runs until the swelling has gone, the scar has faded and you have returned fully to daily life.
Haven't you wondered about recovery as much as the surgery itself? Today, that is the subject.

Recovery is planned too

Just as the surgery is planned beforehand, the care afterwards is planned as well.
What may be done at which point, and what must wait, differs by the type of surgery and the layer that was addressed.
I believe it is most accurate for the person who operated to set the recovery plan too — because he knows what was handled during surgery, and how.

Knowing the surgery changes the care

After surgery in which a deep layer was drawn and fixed, for instance, we do not rush care that strongly stimulates that layer. Care during recovery must be chosen by the layer it acts on and by timing.
That judgement requires knowing which care acts on which layer. I think the advantage of a clinic that handles both surgery and non-surgical care shows itself in recovery.

We have prepared ways to support recovery

We use hyperbaric oxygen therapy as supportive care during recovery.
Breathing high-concentration oxygen above atmospheric pressure dissolves more oxygen into the plasma, helping carry it to tissue oxygen does not easily reach. It has long been used in clinical practice to support wound healing.
It takes place simply by lying down and breathing, without needles or drugs, so the burden is light. What is felt varies between individuals, however, and it may be restricted with certain conditions, so prior checking is needed.

Why we check on your progress

After surgery we review progress on a set schedule.
Simply being told that you are healing well greatly reduces the anxiety of recovery. If something comes up in the meantime, please contact us rather than waiting for the next visit. Checking and advising is our job.

The timetable of recovery is planned too

When the sutures come out, when you can wash your face, when you can exercise again.
Most questions during recovery are questions of timing. The timetable differs by type of surgery, so we make sure you leave with your own timetable in writing.

During recovery, please contact us at these times

Sudden severe pain, bleeding, or marked swelling on one side may not be part of normal recovery.
Please tell us straight away rather than waiting it out. Recovery varies between individuals, but the sooner an abnormal sign is identified, the better.
