Hello.
Butler Plastic Surgery Clinic (specialty: plastic surgery)
I am Yun Taebin, director.
When you start looking into lifting devices, it is easy to begin by choosing a name.
But the order has been reversed. A device is not the answer; it is a tool. Which tool suits you is decided by the layer your sagging came from.
Different depths do different work
Focused ultrasound devices gather energy into points and deliver it down to the SMAS layer, about 4.5 mm beneath the skin.
Radiofrequency devices heat broadly, as a surface, from the dermis to the fat layer. Microwave devices pass through the epidermis to carry heat to the layer beneath.
They share the name lifting, yet the layer they reach and the mechanism differ. So what should be decided first?
Not the device, but the layer of your sagging.
How a surgeon looks at lasers
In facelift surgery I have seen and handled the SMAS layer with my own eyes.
Having confirmed through surgery where that layer lies and how it slackens gives me a standard when setting the depth of a laser as well.
Because how much energy to send to which layer is, in the end, a question of anatomy.
Why we keep several devices
Because the layer of sagging differs from person to person.
Deep-layer sagging, loss of firmness across a broad surface, fat and firmness as a combined concern — each calls for a different energy.
With only one device, every concern gets interpreted through that device. That is what we guard against.
Sometimes combining is the answer
Where deep and shallow sagging exist together, energies of different depths may be combined.
Combining is not always better, however, and the interval and order must be observed. That plan is what the consultation is for.
What matters more than the number of shots
Where and how the energy is distributed is hard to judge by numbers alone.
Marking the position of bone and nerve, choosing depth according to skin thickness — I consider the preparation you cannot see to be half the procedure.
Between surgery and lasers
Just as there is no reason to recommend surgery to someone for whom a laser is enough, repeating lasers alone is not right for someone whose sagging is deep.
Because this clinic handles both surgical and non-surgical care, we can point to whichever suits your present condition without pushing you one way.
What to know before the procedure
Even a non-invasive procedure may bring temporary redness, warmth, swelling or bruising, and the degree and duration of the effect vary between individuals.
Change tends to appear gradually over the months in which collagen builds, rather than immediately after the session, so it is best viewed over a long span.
